Visiting Lansdowne traveled 300 plus miles north into New York State and came away with the victory to get them an Empire GU semifinal against Greenwich Rugby Club. The visitors were 1st on the scoresheet. Center Robby Davies, who could easily be Man of the Match week in and out, struck in minute 3 as he artfully eluded several defenders and slammed down to put the visitors ahead by 5. The Irishmen’s front row of Tom Murray, Sean Collum and Facundo Soraire put enormous pressure on their Aarvark counterparts to create a platform for the backs to create their magic. In minute 18 Man of the Match Dominic Sofe made a thunderous run and got Lansdowne in close. A lovely pass out wide by Dillon Casey to the streaking Mike Russell resulted in Mike touching down and extending the visitors’ lead to 10. However Rochester were just warming up. In minute 27, their impressive inside center flew into goal, and the subsequent conversion got them to within 3. But the Irishmen responded 6 minutes later. After 16 bruising phases, the magnificent Dominic Sofe continued his recent spate of tries with a superb effort as he slammed into goal. And at the end of the half, brilliant center Pio Sovalevu put Lansdowne up by 13 with a massive effort as he touched down.

Lansdowne were 1st on the scoresheet in the 2nd half. After a brief drive of off the kickoff, Dillon Casey slotted a penalty to get the visitors ahead by 23 7. But 4 minutes later Rochester demonstrated their class, and, after a sustained drive, their #4 emphatically slammed down with the conversion immediately after. The teams played to a standstill for the next 16 minutes as neither defence would crack. But in minute 64 Robby Davies got his brace with a magnificent finishing touch. Dillon Casey’s conversion got the numbers up to 30 14. Rochester’s scrumhalf converted a penalty in minute 70 to get the numbers back up to within 2 scores. But 4 minutes later the ever impressive John Giordano streaked 40 meters down the pitch into goal and the Dillon Casey conversion put the Bhoys up by 37 17. The Aardvarks demonstrated their grit by refusing to concede as they finished out a sequence and scored a lovely try in minute 75 to end the numbers at 37 22 to Lansdowne.
