This past Saturday visiting Lansdowne upped their record to 4-1-1 with a comprehensive 46-29 victory over a resilient Gotham Knights side. In doing so, Lansdowne booked a playoff date in Rochester against the Aardvarks this weekend. The visitors broke the ice in minute 5. After a sustained drive, the irrepressible Dominic Sofe continued his impressive try scoring ways as he hammered into goal to get Lansdowne on the sheet. And on the ensuing kickoff, a Gotham infringement gave the visitors a shot at the post which Barry Enright duly converted. The Irish defence, led by Dominic Sofe, Cam Rogers, Facundo Soraire and John Giordano seemed up to the task. But in minute 18, Lansdowne committed an infraction near their own 22. Gotham responded with a quick tap and flew into goal as they got to within 1. In minute 37 Lansdowne infringed again and the Knights’ kicker put them ahead by 2 for their 1st lead of the match. And just before the halftime whistle a galvanized Gotham extended their advantage to 9 points as they ran in and converted.
  The 2nd half started with Lansdowne on the attack. A commanding drive led to a linkup between Dominic Sofe, Omari Ross and Dillon Casey. Co-Man of the Match Phil O’Shea received the pass and then touched down. Mike Russell converted to get the visitors to within 2. And then 6 minutes later in minute 52, Pio Savula glided in from 25 out, and Mike Russell converted as the visitors regained the advantage. At this stage, the Irishmen were firing on all cylinders. In minute 56 some sublime work by Conor McCarthy, John Giordano and Co-Man of the Match Mike Russell got the ball to the capable hands of Dominic Sofe. Big Dom got his brace and Mike Russell made it a 2 score match. Steve Grenham continued his magnificent form in minute 67 as he doubled the lead and made it a 3 score contest. Gotham shortened the advantage in minute 70 as they ran in and converted to get back to within 10. However just 2 minutes later, Facundo Soraire blasted through the homeside defence to put Lansdowne back up by 15. The nip and tuck continued as a determined Gotham struck back with another try in minute 76. But Lansdowne finished the numbers as the superb center combo of Omari Ross and Robby Davies punished the Gotham defence. Robby flew in from the 10 meter line and Mike Russell converted to close it out.
