Last week Lansdowne and Old Blue B battled to a draw in an absolute cracker of a match. Each team gained advantages while threatening to blow the game wide open, but the other responded to massively switch momentum. Minute 4 saw an enthralling Lansdowne drive led by Tom Murray and Facundo Soraire, as they got the homeside deep. An Old Blue infringement led to Barry Enright’s splitting the posts which put the Irishmen up by 3. Old Blue took the lead in minute 8 as their formidable forwards led a muscular drive deep into enemy territory. Eight phases later and a patient visiting pack punched it in to put their side up 5 3. The contest took a fierce turn as the 2 sides battled furiously without scoring for 18 minutes. But then lightning struck in the form of Old Blue’s 2 midfielders and fullback as they gained a 10 3 lead. Lansdowne’s John Giordano made a magnificent seemingly try saving tackle after a superb 20 meter dash by the OB center. But the 13’s lovely All Black reminiscent offload in tackle to their supporting fullback freed the 15 up as he dashed 20 more meters into goal. In minute 32 Lansdowne evened things up. Steve Grenham and Niall Dillon led the pack in relentless pressure and got Lansdowne down to the 22. Advantage was called and reminiscent of fellow Dubliner Johnny Sexton, Dillon Casey launched a splendid cross field kick into the opposite corner where John Giordano coolly touched down. Barry Enright’s conversion evened matters. In minute 32, Old Blue regained the lead as their Lansdowne tormenting fullback did just that again with a scintillating 40 meter glide into goal. But Lansdowne responded near the half. Sustained pressure by the Irishmen caused an Old Blue infringement, and Barry Enright’s penalty got them to within 2 at the break.

The 2nd half started and Lansdowne were the first to strike. A massive rolling maul by Tom Murray, Facundo Soraire and Dominic Sofe pushed the homeside deep. Dillon Casey linked up beautifully with John Giordano and Barry Enright as Dillon finished marvelously under the uprights. Barry’s conversion had the Irish ahead by 5. In minute 50, Lansdowne seemed to take control. Omari Ross, Dillon Casey and Dominic Sofe put on a clinic. Man of the Match Sean Hayes gobbled up possession and slammed down for a commanding lead. Barry Enright’s conversion had Lansdowne ahead by 12. Old Blue were not finished. Minute 70 saw an impressively clinical drive which had the visitors slam down and convert to get them to within 5. The visitors closed up the scoring and draw even with another dedicated drive and touch down 4 minutes before the death.
