This past Saturday visiting Lansdowne rebounded from last week’s loss to Brooklyn by beating the Lions on Randalls Island. In doing so, the Irishmen evened their record at 1-1 and kept their postseason hopes alive. Lansdowne struck first in minute 6. Captain Niall Dillon galloped into Lions’ territory and offloaded to Robby Davies who deftly blew past 2 defenders and touched down in the corner. Barry Enright impressed with a touchline conversion to put the Irish up by 7. However, the Lions were just getting warmed up, as their lovely offload game kicked into gear. In minute 14 and after sustained pressure, a Lion slammed down under the posts, and the subsequent conversion put the sides even. However just 3 minutes later, a Lion knocked the ball forward at their own 10 meter line. The opportunistic James Beery swiped the ball and sprinted 40 meters downfield for the score. At the death, Tommy Murray impressed with his defensive effort and stole the ball at the 10 meter line. The Lions infringed and Barry Enright converted the penalty from 40 meters out.

The 2nd half began, and the Lions struck first in minute 44. Lansdowne coughed the ball up, and the homeside impressed with their trademark offload game. Ten passes later and the Manhattanites touched down and converted to get to within one. Four minutes later, Omari Ross gobbled up possession and slammed down to lengthen the visitors’ lead. Barry Enright’s conversion put Lansdowne 2 scores ahead. Just 3 minutes later, the Lions responded with a lovely drive as their offloading worked to perfection and they touched down to get within a score. But in minute 54, outstanding work by Ronan Costello, Omari Ross, Rampaging Steve Murphy and Man of the Match Steven Grenham got Lansdowne in close. The fortuitive Sean Collum took possession and slammed down under the sticks. Barry Enright’s conversion put the Irish up by 10. The homeside closed the scoring in minute 70 scoring a try and converting after sustained pressure.
